The latest research tells us that these flying wonders have the reasoning abilities of a four year old human infant.
The talking birds have been known to mimic human speech. But now it appears these avian cousins have a few more tricks up their wings. The African Grey Parrot is one of the brightest birds on the planet. Not only are these fine feathered specimens able to copy human speech word for word but they are adept in other ways too. The latest research tells us that these flying wonders have the reasoning abilities of a four year old human infant. This is a miracle of the natural world and one that is a wonder to behold.
These parrots are able to find hidden food by employing trial and error methods that are similar to the ones used by chimps and apes. Like apes use a stick to reach for termites in holes or join twigs to produce a longer implement these birds too have a lot of practical intelligence worthy of being lauded. It places them at the top notch place in the animal kingdom as far as brains are concerned.
Research was done on these grey fluffy ones in Austria. Food was placed before them and then hidden in different containers. From one of the containers it was removed before them. When they were released they reached for the container containing food and deliberately rejected the one that was empty. This shows a high level of reasoning and cogitating power.
The logic and skills of cognition needed to be able to do this are an extraordinary find in an animal much less a bird. It shows that no matter how high a sense of regard humans may feel for their own kind there is Nature which is always a step ahead. The fact that these avian geniuses exist is proof if any is needed that there are greater things in heaven and earth than is to be dreamt of in our philosophy.
