‘Passionate’ is the word that describes Wuthering Heights. Passionate love, passionate hate, passionate rage, passionate revenge and passionate everything! It is a very heartfelt novel thats tell the story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, the main characters of the book.
Catherine Earnshaw is the daughter of Mr. Earnshaw, the owner of Wuthering Heights. And Heathcliff is presumably an orphan child who is found by Mr. Earnshaw, a generous man, on the streets of Liverpool, who adopts him and takes him to Wuthering Heights. Catherine befriends Heathcliff and they both forms a deep attachment to each other, but her brother Hindley hates and contemns him as a rival. This friendship changes into love when they both grow old. But when Mr Earnshaw dies, Hindley becomes the new owner of Wuthering Heights and decides to treat Heathcliff as a servant.
Despite her love for Heathcliff, Catherine declares that she cannot marry him because it would lower her, and Heathcliff, in agony disappears for three years and she marries Edgar Linton. When he returns, he makes his way back into Catherine’s life. But soon after Catherine dies. Heathcliff vows to take his tyrannical revenge from everyone around him e.g Hindley Earnshaw and even himself.
